Introducing Movement Emotion - the beginning of your
exercise journey
Transforming physical and mental healthcare
Exercise Physiology is a relatively new industry that provides exercise advice while offering guidance through various injuries, chronic diseases, lifestyle and mental health issues. Conservative management of injuries is where the research has taken us and by combining Movement and Emotion we are practising just that.
About Me
I’m Millane Rayner and as an Exercise Physiologist and Exercise Scientist with over five years of experience and a passion for health, I’m here to assist members of the community to help them make their lives whole again. I have worked with athletes, veterans, various disabilities and “average adults” to achieve their “goals”. However, I don’t believe in “goals” as they are usually rudimentary, I instead believe in listening to your story and discovering what you wish to achieve by adding exercise into your lifestyle. Together we will dive deeper into what you value as health for yourself and work towards this from the initial consultation.
I believe that by identifying the adversities and the issues associated with these lifestyle changes, we can work to change your perceptions of health and encourage you to think outside of the box and change your point of view.
Philosophy and Approach to Exercise
When first starting Exercise Physiology, my “passion” was to help those chronic diseases, however, it has now developed into psychology in the form of educating and guiding clients through a sometimes challenging period of their lives. My philosophy is built on the practice that no-one is broken physically or mentally. But that they just need the help and guidance to get moving!
Misconceptions and assumptions are drilled into us from a societal level and re-enforced by old ways of thinking. There is a new paradigm of health care evolving and we need to take control and explore this new paradigm rather than reject it.
Healthcare is complex, it has many different facets (sorry about the pun!) as there are many things to consider. Over the years, I have worked with various healthcare professionals and have come to the conclusion that exercise with a healthcare professional who understands the pros and cons of physical activity will have the best outcomes. I believe in working with other healthcare professionals, however, no one should ever tell you to “not do that activity” or “restrict” you from moving in one way or another. A question that I ask my clients is; “have you ever gone to a physiotherapist or doctor and they have said to never complete that activity ever again?” and as you can guess the answer I get most often is, “yes”. I believe in progressive overload, which means initially assessing your competency to complete the exercise then building this capability over time whether that be weeks, months, years. This falls under a little something I like to call “preventative care” but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be achieved before an injury or alike. It is in fact never too late to start or continue to prevent the issue getting worse. Enough is enough of the gamble of “undergoing surgery”. You’re not broken. Your body is not broken, it needs some tender loving care. Many healthcare professionals are referring to exercise physiologists including; podiatrists, chiropractors, doctors, osteopaths, as we take care of many different chronic diseases and movement patterns that will “turn on” muscles and neurological pathways.
At Movement Emotion, I’ll help you with your journey back to health whether it’s in-person or online. So, if you are feeling blue, slightly angry, a little sad, frustrated, perhaps a slight niggle, or are suffering from chronic injuries or chronic health issues, share your story and come in for exercise and it may just save you a trip for that surgery.
